Slates

Slate
Right now, there's not a ton of choice for a slate style form-factor computing device like the Apple iPad.  This will change by the end of 2010.

The iPad is a great device, but the price is a tad high for the current features that it offers.  Getting one is definitely tempting, but if you can wait just a bit longer, you'll have other devices to choose from, and you may be happy that you stuck it out.

If you currently use an iPhone, you already know how to use the iPad.  The inteface in the software itself is a little different in order to take advantage of the iPad's larger display.

If money isn't an issue, join the crowd and get it.  I'm going to hold off at least until the Windows slates are out later this year.  The interface probably won't be as good, the price will probably be the same as the iPad or even a tad higher, but this will be made up in features that the current iPad is lacking.

These features will likely include:
  • memory card reader
  • usb port
  • external video port (to connect to a TV or other larger display)
  • a Flash capable web browser
  • web cam and mic
  • compatibility with thousands of existing windows programs and games

I'm excited for these features and can't wait to have an iPad style device that can do it all.
